Action Button Quick Timing

If your iPhone has an Action Button, you can assign Knoself’s timing shortcuts to it. Then you can start recording time without first finding the app on your Home Screen.

  • Before commuting, exercising, reading, or joining a meeting.
  • When you want to start tracking without opening the app manually.
  • When you often record the same kind of activity.
  1. Open the iPhone Settings app.
  2. Go to Action Button.
  3. Set the action type to Shortcut.
  4. Choose one of the Knoself actions:
    • Direct Timing: opens the timer page immediately. Best when you want to start first and add details later.
    • Quick Timing: opens the tag picker first. Best when you want the timer to start with a category such as Work, Reading, or Exercise.
  5. Press and hold the Action Button once to test it.

After setup, pressing the Action Button runs the Knoself action you selected:

  • Direct Timing opens the timer page.
  • Quick Timing opens the quick tag selection flow.

Once timing has started, you can put the phone away and add a title, notes, tags, or images when the activity ends.

Choose Direct Timing if your priority is to reduce friction and avoid interrupting the moment.

Choose Quick Timing if you already use a stable tagging system and want cleaner stats later.
